I hope you stay and look around for awhile - while I've been laying low as a bass player these days, I have been continuing my involvement in the things I love best: CD Mastering, running and Delphi computer programming.

August 16, 2008 | A Midsummer Night's Run

Ran the 15 Km portion of this running event with a chip time of 1:32:49.2. This very friendly and well organized event (with an amazing route), proceeded around the Toronto Leslie Spit and Thommy Thompson Park as the sun went down. The organizers of this run help to raise funds for the Sick Kids foundation.

December 2007 | Greg Kelly - Broken Windows

Mastered the debut CD, "Broken Windows" by the very talented Ottawa based musician, Greg Kelly.

I am thrilled that this CD will be finally being released in April, 2008 - the music and musicianship is amazing... and it sounds great too! A personal favourite is "Four In The Morning", as it is a song that I hum during my re-occuring bouts with insomnia, without irony, at about four in the morning.

This CD was recorded in Ottawa at Constant Sound Studio and was produced, recorded and mixed by Kate & Hollis Morgan.

November 2007 | Breakfast Television Holiday Favourites

Mastered the "Breakfast Television Holiday Favourites" CD - a collection of holiday tunes, accompanied by the hosts of the Toronto Citytv Breakfast Television morning show, including Dina Pugliese, Kevin Frankish, Frank Ferragine, and Tracy Moore.

This was an interesting project as I never would have thought that that I'd be listening to Christmas songs (and enjoy them!) at the beginning of November - and to think that the recording and mixing engineer Anthony Montano was recording the tracks in the months of summer and fall.

The project producers agreed to print only10,000 units... and every single one of those sold in merely a few weeks; apparently it was the best selling holiday album of the season at HMV. I would like to personally thank Robert Lawlor for presenting me with the "Emerald Award", a CD plaque commemorating the sale of 10,000 units.

October 28, 2007 | Washington DC, Marine Corps Marathon

Ran the Washington DC, Marine Corps Marathon in 4:45:11 - placing 11662 out of 20625 finishers... yes, I did "beat the bridge".

This was one of the most overwhelming yet thrilling, confidence invoking yet humbling, adrenaline boosting yet nerve-racking, emotionally laced moments of my life. The sights and sounds of Washington DC, literally one of most "monumental" cities in the world, provided an incredibly inspiring environment for running - every corner turned contained postcard perfect moments to provoke an awe-induced run, while the the crowds were enormous and supportive. And trust me, I wasn't going to leave without my picture being taken at the Iwo Jima War Memorial...

December 2007 | Emmy Award

I must brag about my friend Frank Lewis as he finally received his Technical Emmy Award for the development of his live poker technologies (used at the Mansion Poker Pokerdome in Las Vegas). If you have ever seen a televised poker event, chances are that it is Frank's technology being used: it allows the tv viewer to know the players cards before the player has even seen them. He is the inventor of the CardTracker technology (TM) that utilizes customized RFID playing cards, tieing into a graphical system that displays the cards live for the viewers.

September 30, 2007 | Toronto Scotiabank Waterfront Half Marathon

Ran the Toronto Scotiabank Waterfront Half Marathon with a chip time of 2:16:22, placing 3811 of 5364 finishers. As this was my first organized running event ever, I have to say that this was the perfect way to get my feet wet in the running event world. I still remember that moment as the sun came up and I rounded the corner of Church and Front Street, within a sea of countless runners - amazing. ___________________________________________________________

February, 2007 | Broadcast Engineering Excellence Award Nomination

My co-workers and I were nominated for a Broadcast Engineering Excellence Award, regarding the implementaion of a digital asset management and archival system that was integrated at the (formerly known as) CHUM Television facility in Toronto (now CTV Queen Street). While we didn't win, let's face it, it's always great to get noticed for a good technical achievement once in awhile.

I have had the privilege and pleasure of playing double and electric bass with the following artists - in many cases, have recorded or engineered/mastered their CD projects:

  • George Grosman (2001-2004), a talented swing guitarist, vocalist, and composer
  • Les Singes Bleus (2002 - 2004), a six-piece band (vox, sax, violin, guitar, percussion, coronet, double bass), who play a twist on familiar French café classics by Jacques Brel, Edith Piaf, Georges Brassens, Serge Gainsbourg, and others
  • Teresa Kelly and the Swing Upstarts (2001-2004), an "old-timey" jazz quintet (vox, guitar, piano, sax, double bass), that play a variety of ballads and swing standards from the 30's and 40's
  • Noodle House (1993 - 1996), released two recordings, the debut Noodle House and the highly regarded follow up, "Gasoline". Members of the band included former Martha and The Muffins drummer, Tim Gane, his brother, Nick Gane (keys), and Al Bradbury/Cameron (vox/guitar) - James Van Bolhuis eventually replaced Tim Gane.
  • The Patabeatniks (formerly known as Eternal Now, 1988 - 1994), formed in Calgary, and later moved to Toronto. Members at one time or another were: Bill Reynolds (vox), Greg Boyd (guitar), Nick Diochnos (guitar), Steve Owwtrim (drums), Andrew Pierce (drums), Heather Davies (vox), Jane Miller (vox), and some other revolving door of drummers. The CD, The Stupid Club, was finally released in 1995 after the release of about four demo cassettes.
  • Captain Black and The Motivation (1986?)
